This is one of the most popular tourist spots in Tokyo!
I work in Tokyo, so I know all the tourist spots in Tokyo. If you need help with sightseeing in Tokyo, please refer to this article!I will support you to make your trip a success!
1. A downtown area that retains traces of the Edo period
If you have come all the way to Japan, I hope you will learn about Japanese culture. In Tokyo, the culture of the Edo period still remains. Sensoji Temple and Ueno Park are classic examples, but why not go a little further?
- Tsukishima area: There are many restaurants serving monja-yaki, a traditional Japanese dish, and it is a place I often go after work.
- Asakusa area: Asakusa is famous for Senso-ji Temple, but there are so many attractions in the surrounding area, such as the Sky Tree, Kappabashi Tool Street, and numerous restaurants, that you could spend a whole day there and never get bored.
- Mukojima area: Hanayashiki amusement park and the rows of cherry trees along the Sumida River are famous. Visitors can also experience traditional geisha culture.
2. A gallery for art lovers
Tokyo is home to many unique galleries as well as world-famous museums. There are also many areas with stylish cityscapes.
- Ginza area: While Ginza is lined with the world’s top brands, contemporary art galleries are tucked away in the back streets.
- Shibuya and Harajuku area: Shibuya and Harajuku, the centers of youth culture, are home to many street art and subculture galleries. Personally, I like to take a walk along the old Shibuya River promenade (commonly known as “Cat Street”) in Harajuku.
- Kuramae area: A gallery renovated from a traditional warehouse is popular. Visitors can encounter craft works and design goods. The streetscape of the city, also known as “Tokyo’s Brooklyn,” is very fashionable.
3. A hole-in-the-wall spot where you can get in touch with nature
If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and refresh yourself in nature, how about a place like this?
- Shinjuku Gyoen: The garden allows visitors to enjoy seasonal flowers and greenery while still being in the heart of the city. It is only a 15-minute walk from Shinjuku Station.A cup of coffee at Starbucks in Shinjuku Gyoen is exceptional.
- Inokashira Onshi Park: The park is famous for its Ghibli no Mori Art Museum. You can take a boat ride and interact with animals in the zoo. The nearest station is Kichijoji.
- Mount Takao: This mountain is located in Okutama, Tokyo, and offers a casual hiking experience. Fuji can be deadly if you do not wear proper mountaineering clothes, but Mt. Takao can be visited just like hiking, making it an easy sightseeing trip.
4. Enjoy Tokyo by night
Tokyo at night has a different charm from the daytime. There are many ways to enjoy the city. Whether you want to see the beautiful Tokyo nightscape or enjoy a drink at famous tourist spots such as Shinjuku, Shibuya, or Ginza, Tokyo is an easy train ride away, so you can experience many different cities.
- Night view spot: Tokyo Tower, Sky Tree, Shibuya Sky, Odaiba, Ikebukuro Sunshine City, Roppongi Hills, Toranomon Hills, and Omotesando are recommended for beautiful night views.
- Alley: This is a hole-in-the-wall spot where you can enjoy a wide variety of food while mingling with your neighbors in dozens of small restaurants that seat 5 to 10 people.
- Nightclub: If you like music, enjoy music at a club. There are clubs in Shibuya, Ginza and Roppongi area.
